Many patients come to us in pain and within a few visits they are out of pain. Some continue through corrective care looking for health, but some just stop when the pain stops. Ultimately it is up to the patient to continue care. But here are some thoughts that you may want to consider before stopping your chiropractic care.

Firstly, if you felt terrible when you came to us, you didn’t get that way overnight. Even though you may not have had pain symptoms very long, stressors were affecting your body and allowing degeneration and dis-ease to build up to the point where symptoms occurred. We’ve all met people who said they were “feeling fine”, but they looked like death warmed-over. Only about 5 percent of our body has pain receptors sending signals to the brain. The body reserves pain for alerting us to issues that we may not be noticing or immediate needs (like injuries).

This may leave a lot of our body that may not communicate pain but may be communicating other dis-function. While your body may not be showing all of the underlying dis-functions. They are still happening. The longer you wait, the more the body may be experiencing the effects of long-standing subluxations, postural changes, tender muscles areas or trigger points. These underlying symptoms take time to dissolve and to heal. While the symptoms may have diminished, the weaknesses in your spine, ligaments, discs, tendons, muscles and bones usually remains. It can take months or years for your body to rebuild scar tissue.

It can take months or even years to get you back to optimum health again. Especially if you have already done some of the corrective care treatments, periodic chiropractic adjustments can help you maintain that state of health and help the body adapt to stresses and changes. The true purpose of chiropractic is not to treat dis-ease, aches and pains, but to rid the body of subluxations as they occur, so you can keep adapting to whatever life brings along. People who choose a chiropractic lifestyle often report better quality of life, improved physical and emotional health, and more energy. They also use less drugs and have less perceived stress in their lives.

Chiropractic is not a natural “aspirin” simply for pain relief. Chiropractic opens up the body and mind to ensure better overall health and vitality for you and your entire family.
